8 August : Proper rehabilitation for rescued child labourers and increasing the quantum of punishment for their employers were among the major recommendations put forward on Friday by various states to stop the practice.
The commissioners of 25 states who participated in the deliberations also observed that the family was the best place for rehabilitation of children rescued from the clutches of their employers. Read the rest of this entry »

16 July:The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has directed the State Governments and various export promotion councils to set up self regulatory mechanism to check the child labour from supply to export stage. It has also asked to initiate social auditing to make sure that no child labour is engaged in any form.
In a communication to the various export promotion bodies and the Chief Secretaries of the States, Chairman of the Commission, Smt. Shanta Sinha has said that “NCPCR has been deeply concerned about the growing incidence of child labour. Children are being employed by many informal and household sectors.
