New Delhi, 13th September 2011: yesterday, with the help of Delhi Police rescued 9 children from Model Town Area of North Delhi District. The operation is a part of a nation wide campaign against child labour and trafficking called the India Action Week (organized by BBA from 12 to 18 September 2011).  8 boys and 1 girl were rescued who have all been trafficked from Badayun district in Uttar Pradesh.

The children were working as a wire cutter in a switch wire manufacturing unit in Mahendra Enclave. These children were forced to work for 12-14 hrs in a day and paid merely Rs. 1500. Police has arrested the employer and has prosecuted him for offense of child labour and cruelty to children. Aliman (name changed), 10, said the one and half years back his so called uncle bring him to Delhi for studies and to lrearn some ‘HUNAR’ (trade/craft)as he promissed to his Abboo. But he sold Aliman to a factory owner where he was left in lurch without enough food and no books at all. He was forced to polish on steel from 9 pm to 2 am in the morning. This made his hands completely black and skin rough.

On Saturday, September 10th 2011, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Railway Police and had rescued 17 children from Saharsha Railway Station in Bihar. All these children belonged to Araria, Kishanganj and Supol districts of Bihar & were being trafficked to Punjab for forced labour. In another raid conducted by BBA, Police and , 15 children were rescued from Hajipur Station in Bihar.

Sri , Chairperson BBA said that the number of child labourers who are being trafficked is not diminishing. These children are not being traced due to indifferent attitude of concerned government agencies, but the countrywide raid operation will help raising awareness. Creating a legal  deterrent and enforcement for the rescue of these child labourers. The operation will be conducted in 10 states across the country with full co-operation of Labour Department, local police and district administration. This joint operation will help in liberating hundreds of child labourers.
